Autism Testing For
Children and Adolescents

At Lumos Developmental Clinic, we specialize in providing thorough and comprehensive autism testing for children and adolescents aged 6 years and older. Our approach is designed to deliver a clear and accurate understanding of each child or adolescent’s unique profile.

The assessment process at Lumos Developmental Clinic is detailed and multifaceted, ensuring that we consider all aspects of your child’s development. It begins with an interview with a parent to gather essential background information and insights into the child or adolescent’s early development and current challenges. Following this, we conduct a clinical interview and structured observation directly with your child. This step allows our skilled clinicians to engage with your child, understanding their social interaction, communication skills, and behavior patterns.

In addition to these personalized interactions, we administer a series of psychological tests specifically chosen to aid in the diagnosis of autism. These tests are selected based on their reliability and validity in identifying autism spectrum disorders. To complement our assessments, we also gather information from other significant individuals in the adolescent’s life – including teachers, coaches, or family members – who can provide additional perspectives on the adolescent’s daily functioning and interactions. We may also ask that you record and upload video clips of your child during some everyday situations, to give us insight into your child’s typical behaviour at home.
At the conclusion of the assessment, our clinic provides the family with a comprehensive report. This report not only confirms or disconfirms the diagnosis but also serves as a valuable tool for the family. If your child meets the criteria for an autism diagnosis, the report can be used to apply for various supports, funding, and school accommodations specifically tailored to support your child’s unique needs and potential.

Our ASD assessments for adolescents are available fully online to families residing in Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Nunavut. For families from British Columbia, we have a different process that has been designed to meet the specific criteria required to access funding through the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Children and adolescents aged 6 years or older can be seen at our offices in Kelowna.

At Lumos Developmental Clinic, we are dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and their families through this critical process with compassion, expertise, and a commitment to excellence.
