Autism Assessments for
Children and Adolescents
in Kelowna BC

At Lumos Developmental Clinic, we understand the importance of ensuring that families in British Columbia have access to the necessary evaluations to secure funding and support for their children with autism. To facilitate this, we adhere to the guidelines established by the BC Autism Assessment Network. This process necessitates the use of the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R), as well as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), a tool that requires in-person administration.

Our commitment to assisting families throughout this process involves a comprehensive assessment protocol. Initially, a parent or guardian meets with one of our skilled psychologists for a structured developmental interview utilizing the ADI-R, tailored to meet the specific requirements set forth by British Columbia’s guidelines. Following this, your child will be scheduled for an in-person behavioral observation session, which includes the administration of the ADOS-2. This critical step ensures that our assessments align with the provincial standards for autism diagnosis, thus facilitating access to funding and support. Our clinicians routinely conduct autism assessments for school-aged children throughout British Columbia and are considered Qualified Specialists for the diagnosis of autism in BC.

In addition to the ADOS-2, we may administer psychological or neuropsychological tests that are designed to aid in the diagnosis of autism. We also distribute checklists to individuals who are familiar with your child, such as teachers or caregivers, to obtain a more rounded view of their abilities and challenges.

Currently, in-person ADOS administrations are available at our offices in Kelowna. All other aspects of the assessment can be conducted remotely. At this time, we can serve children aged 6 years and older. Our mission is to ensure that no child or family navigates this path alone. By incorporating BC’s provincial guidelines into our assessment strategy, we strive to make the route to obtaining necessary funding and support as seamless and supported as possible.
